It was a difficult job, but somebody had to do it. Whether you just want to relax and sunbathe, play some sports or go surfing, or enjoy some beachside cocktails with friends, we’ve got you covered. So, without further ado, let’s jump right in and look at our picks for the best beaches.

What is the best Beach in Barcelona?

Barceloneta beach

Well, let’s get started with what is arguably the most famous beach in Barcelona. The Barceloneta Beach dates back to the 18th century and features a beautiful seafront promenade. This beach is a good all-rounder making it ideal for all kinds of visitors.

You can easily set up a volleyball net and start playing or simply relax and sunbathe. The beach offers various amenities, including changing rooms, bicycle rentals, showers, and bathrooms.
You’ll also find many great beachside bars, restaurants, and cafes.

The Barceloneta Beach really has got it all and is likely many people’s first spot when they’re looking for a beach to visit. Be warned, though this beach can get very busy.

Bogatell beach

Despite being one of the larger beaches in Barcelona at just over 700 meters, the Bagatell Beach is also one of the quieter options. But maybe that is down to it being so big? If your dream trip to the beach is more about relaxing and enjoying some peace and quiet, this could be the one for you.

While the beach still receives plenty of visitors, it is mostly by tourists visiting the nearby city shops and marketplaces. The average age of visitors is also notably older. So, if you want a break from beachside partying, why not drop by for a few hours and catch some sun?

Despite the more relaxed nature of the beach, there are still plenty of amenities available to make your visit more comfortable. These include bathrooms, showers, lockers, beverage vendors, and an onsite information point.

Mar Bella Beach

Mar Bella is a relaxed and peaceful beach that, although popular, still maintains a relativeness quietness. So, if you want a beach where you can relax and sunbathe, this could be the beach for you! But this beach is also a great spot for sports fans.

Whether you want to enjoy volleyball, kayaking, skateboarding, or even something a little more extreme like windsurfing, you’ll find all this and more around the beach.

The nearby promenade is also a popular spot for rollerblading too.
If you’re feeling a little adventurous, then the Mar Bella beach also includes a clothing-optional area as well. The Mar Bella beach has got something for everyone, so whatever your dream trip to the beach is, you’ll be sure to enjoy Mar Bella.

Somorrostro Beach

The Somorrostro beach was once home to a historic shanty town but now houses a beautiful beach! The beach is close to several luxurious shops and restaurants, so it is the perfect spot to visit after hitting the shops.

The beach is popular with the younger population and big with swimming and surfing fans. So, if you feel like hitting the waves, then you’ll love visiting the splendid Somorrostro beach! Because of this, Somorrostro also always has an experienced team of lifeguards on duty.

Once you have done tackling the waves and relaxing, you should also be sure to pay a visit to the Centre de la Platja! Found at the centre of the beach, this attraction zone features multiple workshops and fun activities for tourists and locals.

Nova Icària

The Nova Icària beach is one of the calmest beaches in the city. So, while it might not offer the big waves needed for surfing, it’s the perfect place to relax and while away the day. Many people also enjoy the calming waters for swimming as well.

While this beach is certainly popular with tourists and locals, it doesn’t get overly crowded either, making it great for people looking for a little more laidback and peaceful. However, despite the more tranquil atmosphere, there is a dedicated sports and kids’ area at the beach.

So, if you want to play some beachside sports or are visiting Barcelona with kids, this is a great beach to visit. There are also many popular beachside restaurants nearby which make great places to get lunch or dinner.
